Innovation in Action: What’s Possible with ClearSky Smart Fleet™
The job site of the future isn’t just a vision — it’s actively taking shape, and JLG® is helping lead the transformation.
At CES 2025, JLG’s parent company, Oshkosh Corporation, unveiled two groundbreaking concept solutions designed to bring unprecedented efficiency, intelligence and automation to the worksite: The JLG® Galileo and the Autonomous Mobile Charging Robot (AMCR). But, the real innovation isn’t just in the hardware — it’s in the ecosystem that connects them.
Powered by ClearSky Smart Fleet™, JLG’s advanced IoT platform, these technologies demonstrate how autonomy, electrification, and two-way connectivity can come together to eliminate common job site inefficiencies and redefine what’s possible.
The Problem: Job Site Downtime, Disconnected Systems & Labor Challenges
Today’s job sites are complex, resource-constrained environments. Equipment runs across large, often unpowered work zones. Crews are stretched thin. And electric fleets, while cleaner and more efficient, introduce new challenges in energy management.
Some of the biggest pain points include:
- No centralized way to monitor equipment health and charge status
- Manual battery checks that interrupt workflow
- Downtime caused by inaccessible or overburdened charging stations
- Limited power infrastructure, especially on early-phase or remote job sites
- Labor shortages requiring greater automation and smart systems
JLG recognized that solving these issues wouldn’t come from a single machine, but from an intelligent, interconnected job site ecosystem.
The Solution: Galileo + AMCR + ClearSky Smart Fleet = Autonomy in Action
Imagine a scenario where a piece of equipment knows when it needs a charge, communicates with the job site, and automatically summons a mobile charging robot to top it off, no human input needed. That’s the real-world use case behind the Galileo-AMCR integration, made possible by ClearSky Smart Fleet.
Here’s how it works…
Step 1: Real-Time Energy Monitoring
The Galileo, a fully electric concept machine that blends the lifting capabilities of a boom lift with the versatility of a rotating telehandler, continuously monitors its state of charge using embedded ClearSky Smart Fleet system. Its status lights indicate current battery level: green (good), yellow (low) or red (critical).
Step 2: Intelligent Connectivity
When energy levels drop below a threshold, Galileo utilizes ClearSky Smart Fleet’s proprietary Automated Site Network to establish a secure, local connection with nearby assets, including the AMCR. This is all visible and manageable through the ClearSky Smart Fleet mobile app, which provides live diagnostics and charge data.
Step 3: Autonomous Dispatch
The AMCR, a compact, battery-powered robotic charger, receives the call and autonomously navigates to the Galileo using environmental mapping and sensors. The ClearSky Smart Fleet-enabled beacons on both machines confirm the mesh network connection and assist with real-time localization.
Step 4: Seamless Charging
The AMCR orients itself to the Galileo’s integrated wireless charging panel and begins transferring energy from its onboard battery bank. As charging occurs, the system monitors progress and updates Galileo’s state of charge in the app.
Step 5: Self-Resetting Workflow
Once charging is complete, the AMCR disconnects and autonomously returns to its home base for recharging. It’s then ready for its next assignment, with no human input required.
The Power of ClearSky Smart Fleet in This Ecosystem
The Galileo-AMCR integration is more than just a demo; it’s a proof of concept for how ClearSky Smart Fleet’s two-way communication capabilities can drive real-time decision-making and autonomous action.
This is the same technology already embedded in over 65,000+ JLG machines and used daily by fleet managers, rental companies, and service techs to streamline equipment operations.
With 35+ data parameters tracked — including utilization, ignition cycles, trouble codes, and now state-of-charge data — ClearSky Smart Fleet transforms machines from passive assets into smart, responsive equipment.
The Broader Impact: Efficiency, Sustainability & Workforce Optimization
Together, Galileo and AMCR offer a vision for the future where:
- Electrification meets practicality — Galileo operates without hydraulics or lead-acid batteries, delivering zero-emission performance with zero hydraulic leaks and zero battery replacements
- Charging becomes automatic — AMCR removes the manual burden of keeping electric fleets powered, helping minimize downtime and maximize uptime
- Labor is optimized, not stretched — Automated workflows mean workers can focus on higher-value tasks, not routine equipment monitoring
- Connectivity becomes orchestration — The ClearSky Smart Fleet platform ties every element together, providing visibility and control through one intuitive system
Reimagining the Job Site — One Connection at a Time
The Galileo-AMCR system is a bold look at what’s possible when automation, electrification, and IoT converge. But, this vision isn’t far off because the technology powering it already exists and is actively evolving.
With ClearSky Smart Fleet as the foundation, JLG is helping create smart, safe and sustainable job sites — where equipment doesn’t just operate, it thinks, responds and collaborates.
